A Zimbabwean Sunset

A ZIMBABWEAN SUNSET
There are precious few images,
Of serene beauty,
That can compare to the magnificence of
A Zimbabwean sunset.
Never again will you be so completely
Captivated
Enthralled
By the pure uncontaminated beauty
That is the Zimbabwean sun.

For a Zimbabwean sunset,
Is not
Simply the transition from day to night,
Nor the signal of the end of another day.
It is not simply the handing over of authority
From the diurnal creatures,
To the creatures of the night.

A Zimbabwean sunset,
Is a sign of victory
Of success
It signifies the survival of another day
Another day that you have fought against the odds
And triumphed.

A Zimbabwean sunset,
Is the outpouring of an entire countries emotions
Each individual contributing.
Each personal feeling interpreted,
And transformed
Into the enthralling beauty
Of a Zimbabwean sunset

All the trials, triumphs and tribulations,
Glorified
Personified
And displayed on an enormous canvas
In electrically lit oranges, blood reds and vibrant yellows.

A Zimbabwean sunset
Is a time where the entire country
Unifies,
Merges,
Combines
To sit and simply observe
Their magnificent
Zimbabwean sunset.

Vic Falls Gorge Swing

Have you ever had the need to want to fly, well the team at WILD HORIZONS located in Victoria Falls can make that dream become a reality. There is nothing quite like standing on a platform, approximately 200m above the greasy green limpopo, faced with the prospect of being about to plunge into the gorge attached to earth with nothing but a harness. I don't know about you, but the prospect of that makes my blood pump faster around my body filling me with the need to fall through the air 120 meters to be caught by my harness and swung another seventy meters, pure exhiliration. I have been one of the many adrenaline junkies standing on that platform, eager to throw myself off into the gorge, I can not begin to describe the awesome feeling pumping through your viens as you plumet towards the earth, the wind whipping at you hair, all the while the river beckons and comes closer and closer every second. When at last your harness catches you and you begin the Swing part of the Gorge Swing you are overcome by a huges sense of victory, and wonder as you are dangling in the middle of the Gorge, totally surrounded by the pure rawness of nature and beauty, you feel so small and insignificant, but at the same time priviledged to be here, now in this amazing place being allowed to observe this beauty.
If you want to join the elite who have accomplished this task at the bottom of the blog is a connection for Wild Horizons, go check out their site and plan for your Gorge Swing,  I promise you it will be more than worth it.

The Mighty Zambezi

There is a place on this earth unlike any other. It is a place where the lands are governed by the animals and the waters are ruled by the crocodile. In this land everything is pure and untouched, nature in its truest and most original form. This place stirs an awakening in my innermost being, a connection to the landscape, the flora and fauna beat with the freedom of nature, and I beat along with them. Mosi-oa-Tunya, The Smoke that thunders. The very mention of that name makes my heart beat with a pride that I am unable to express, a pride for my country, for my landscape, for my home. The river is the centre of this landscape, the heartbeat of life to this country. The greasy green river starts its course in the highlands of Northern Zambia and flows South East to its estuary in the Indian Ocean. It's mood is constantly changing, torrent and revengful to peace and tranquil, it flows with such might and power, and cascades down one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Mosi-oa-Tunya The Victoria Falls, which is where my heart belongs. Millions of litres of water terrifyingly majestic cascade down the gorge which constantly changes the landscape around, evolving and changing and remoulding the earth to illustrate that nature is in control, humans bend around the flow of the river, the river is in charge, changing flowing stronger, more forceful, gentle and calmly to capture my heart and soul and mould me into the landscape where I feel a peace few other places on earth can instill in me, Mosi-oa-Tunya, The Smoke That Thunders.
